Got to love these videos:

Born with, "the knack."

"You're all losers!"

"It's just a Ham Radio set..."

Here is my presentation from Amateur Radio Technology Day July 25th 2009. The file is a large SWF file with audio (57MB) so it will take some time to load.

RADIO Part 1

"The First One-thousand nine-hundred and forty-one years.

From Ptolemy to The Golden Age, a romp through history along the radio timeline."

Radio interests are meeting people, HF, DX, QRP, all things digital (but NEVER at the expense of analog!), Internet linking, satellite, microwave, EME (Earth-Moon-Earth moon bounce), meteor scatter, all things mobile, emergency communications, simple crystal sets, shortwave listening, antique and vintage radios (a big fan of the early Zenith Trans Oceanic series), the "Golden Age" of radio programming, and the history and impact of radio on society and culture.

In the shack and mobile: Yaesu FT-8900 (self contained portable satellite and packet), FT-817nd (portable HF), FT-1802, FTM-10R (Vespa Scooter mobile) , VX-8R (APRS/GPS enabled), VX-5R, VX-150, FT-51R (satellite HT), Kenwood TS-2000x, Motorola HT1000, Motorola MTS 2000, ICOM IC-92-AD (D-Star), Yaesu Aviator Pro II (aircraft transceiver), Motorola MTS2000 (California State Parks), Iridium 9505A satellite phone, IC- R20, IC-RX7, Bearcat BCT15, Sony Wavehawk, Cobra 38 WXST (CB HT), MFJ 993B, LDG Z-817, Force 12 GT5 vertical dipole, homebrew copper pipe J-pole, Radiowavz G5RV center fed multiband, Rigblaster Plus, Rigblaster Plug and Play, DV Dongle, Echolink, Macs and PCs.

The K1DOD Flickr stream (photos) is here.

The K1DOD YouTube Channel (video) is here.

Just outside the sliding glass door of the shack is the Golden Tiki. A great place to operate from while sipping exoctic libations.

I am a member of ARRL, the Foothills Amateur Radio Society (sponsors of Amateur Radio Technology Day held each month at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University), The Palo Alto Amateur Radio Association, the West Valley Amateur Radio Association, the Northern California DX Club, AMSAT, the Adventure Radio Society, the QRP Amateur Radio Club International, and serve as a volunteer Mutual Aid Communicator for the Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Services.

I can sometimes be found on the N6NFI 2m repeater.
